Michael Wolff, M.D. Medical Director
“My goal in establishing Southwest Spine & Sports is to provide a single source for comprehensive nonsurgical treatment of injuries and painful conditions. I do this because I believe everyone deserves to have access to solutions that will help them enjoy an active, productive life without pain caused by back, neck or joint pain. The ability to offer people in my community this specialized care makes my practice extremely rewarding.”
Dr. Michael Wolff established Southwest Spine and Sports in Scottsdale, Arizona in April of 1999. After receiving an undergraduate education at Emory University, he continued his graduate education at Georgetown University in Human Physiology. He received his doctor of medicine from Georgetown and went on to The Ohio State University Medical Center for his Internship and Residency. Upon completion of his fellowship at the Illinois Spine & Sportscare Center, Dr. Wolff passed the specialty board certification exams with the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. He now directs a fellowship program to train and prepare physicians with the expertise required to successfully treat patients in the field. Dr. Wolff participates in presentations, publications, research, adjunct faculty positions, and volunteer medical staff in the community.

Jonathan Komar, M.D.
“My goal is to relieve patients’ pain and help them achieve the highest level of function possible. That’s why I chose to specialize in physiatry. So I form a partnership with them and address their needs personally, to give them the most complete care possible.”
Dr. Komar began his career at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan, where he earned his medical degree. He completed residency training in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the University of Washington, one of the top programs in the nation. Anthony Lee, M.D.
“Restoring function and quality of life are the basic principles of physiatry. That is the driving force behind every patient visit. In my relationship with a patient, it is important to know what really drives and motivates a patient. The goal is not just to treat the symptom, but to rehab the whole patient properly so that he/she can enjoy their life.”
Dr. Anthony Lee joined the practice in 2005 after completing an interventional spine fellowship at Southwest Spine and Sports. Upon graduating from Dartmouth College, he returned to his home state of Georgia for graduate school and received a Masters of Science in Microbiology from Georgia State University. He then obtained his medical degree from Mercer University School of Medicine. Dr. Lee completed his Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation residency at the University of Pennsylvania where he served as chief resident for two years. He is Board Certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and Board Certified in Pain Medicine. In addition to the spine, Dr. Lee has a special interest in joint pain and sports related injuries.
Dr. Lee moved to Arizona after training in Pennsylvania and Georgia. He grew up playing competitive tennis, but he now also enjoys golf and other outdoor activities.

Miriam Griggs, MD, FAAPMR, PT
“I have been in the rehabilitation field for over 20 years. With my background as a physical therapist I have a unique perspective on physical evaluation and management. Since 1997 I have been developing expertise in the use of medical acupuncture to augment the management of pain in my practice, with subspecialty of muscular pain syndromes. I enjoy the challenge of working with each individual patient to assess sources, treatable causes and ways to overcome pain. My approach emphasizes non surgical treatment and patient controlled methods of overcoming physical pain, restrictions, weakness and inability to tolerate exercise. I help to develop workable strategies for each individual patient ranging from elite athletes to those wishing to simply add life to their years with customized exercise programs. I have learned that in our current medical system it is rare to find coordination of care that addresses the needs of each patient as a whole. Pain, lack of sleep, depression, weakness, and worsening pain becomes a viscious cycle that can be difficult to break. I attempt to determine the sources of pain and work with referring providers to solve these issues and move forward with a proactive rehabilitation strategy that will optimize emotional, physical, and functional well being. My passion is working with people and helping them get achieve their wellness goals.”
