Poor Sleep Increases Pain Risk—by Dr. Michael Breus
In his latest post on www.theinsomniablog.com, Dr. Michael Breus, our newest provider, talks about the complex relationship between sleep and pain and what it means for our bodies—especially as we age. Dr. Breus details the results of a number of different sleep-related studies, all of which explore the surprising link between lack of sleep or lack of high-quality sleep and increased pain.
One such study, from Keele University in the United Kingdom, included 4,326 men and women over age 50 and found lack of refreshing sleep to be the single most likely predictor of developing widespread pain. The study also suggests that may increase the risk of severity of chronic pain conditions such as arthritis and fibromyalgia.
